Information and Communications Technology for Competitive Intelligence PDF
By:Vriens, Dirk
Published on 2003-07-01 by IGI Global

Competitive intelligence (CI) is about gathering and analyzing environmental information for strategic purposes. To gather and analyze this information, information and communication technology (ICT) is an invaluable tool. Examples are: the Internet, data warehouses or specific applications for competitive intelligence. However, the uncritical implementation of these tools may lead to an 'information overload' or to 'environmental myopia.' To select the right ICT tools for CI, an organization needs to understand the role of ICT in the CI-process. This book addresses this need. It sets out to assess the role and possibilities of ICT in the intelligence activities from different perspectives.

Negotiating Control PDF
By:Keri K. Stephens
Published on 2018 by Studies in Mobile Communicatio

The fast-food worker finds refuge in a bathroom stall to respond to her boyfriend's fifth message in an hour. The human resources manager sees a colleague sending a stream of text messages during a meeting and quickly grabs her mobile to make sure she's also multitasking. These scenarios are common, but unique to the 21st century. Until the early 2000s, workplaces provided most of the computers and portable devices that employees used to perform their jobs and communicate with others. Today, people bring their own mobile devices to work and create new norms for how communication occurs in the workplace. Managers and organizations respond by setting and enforcing new policies that are intended to help them navigate the ever-changing mobile-communication environment. In Negotiating Control: Organizations and Mobile Communication, Keri K. Stephens responds to the struggles of employees, organizations, and even friends and family, as they try to understand new norms for connectedness in the workplace. Drawing on over two decades of her own research and fieldwork, representing people in over 35 different types of jobs, Stephens claims that though people assume mobile communication is a uniform practice, there are underlying--and often hidden--issues of control and power at play, which shape how people are permitted and expected to use mobiles to communicate while working. The accounts Stephens offers reveal the many ways that these portable tools are actually used across work environments today, integrating information, communication, and data, and connecting people in expected and often conflicting ways.

Marketing Communications in Tourism and Hospitality PDF
By:Scott McCabe
Published on 2009 by Elsevier

The rapidly changing context of the modern tourism and hospitality industry, responding to the needs of increasingly demanding consumers, coupled with the fragmenting nature of the marketing and media environment has led to an increased emphasis on communications strategies. How can marketing communication strategies meet the changing and challenging demands of modern consumers, and maintain a company's competitive edge? Marketing Communications in Tourism and Hospitality: concepts, strategies and cases discusses this vital discipline specifically for the tourism and hospitality industry. Using contemporary case studies such as South African Tourism, Travelocity and Virgin Trains, it explains and critiques the practice and theory in relation to this industry. Combining a critical theoretical overview with a practical guide to techniques and skills, it illustrates the role that communications play in the delivery and representation of hospitality and tourism services, whilst developing practical skills needed to understand, interpret and implement communications strategies within a management context. This systematic and cohesive text is essential reading for hospitality management students, and an invaluable resource for marketing practitioners in this growing area.

Transport Communications PDF
By:John Tiffin,Christopher Charles Kissling
Published on 2007 by Kogan Page Publishers

Transport Communications is a ground-breaking study into the future of transporting both people and goods more efficiently. The authors examine how existing modes of transport can be made more effective by the use of modern communications technology. Examples include RFID tags, which allow goods to be tracked electronically at every stage of their journey - from the point of manufacture to the point of delivery. They show how possible future developments will continue to revolutionize transport systems, leading to better, cleaner, more cost effective systems. For example, the concept of computer-controlled rail systems, such as London's Dockland Light Railway could be taken a stage further to apply to vehicles which don't run on rails; or the smart traffic control system in Milton Keynes which sense traffic flow and adjusts signal phasing accordingly.
